Sending an invoice delivers the bill to your client by email and makes it available in the client portal when enabled.
When to send vs save as draft
- Save as draft when the invoice still needs internal review or missing line items.
- Send when amounts, customer, and payment options are correct and you are ready to collect payment.
Send an invoice
- Open Sales → Invoices and select the invoice.
- Click Send to client (or the send/email action on the invoice).
- In the Send invoice to Client dialog, confirm recipients.
- Review the email subject and body.
- Enable Attach Invoice PDF if you want the PDF included.
- Use Preview Email Template to see what the client receives.
- Send the email.
Client portal visibility
Unless Not visible to client is enabled on the invoice, the client can view and pay the invoice from their portal. Confirm the correct contact is selected before sending.
What the client can do
- View invoice details and PDF
- Pay online when allowed payment modes and gateways are configured (see Accept Online Payments)
- Download a copy for their records
Troubleshooting
- Client did not receive email — verify the contact email address and check spam folders.
- Wrong recipient — update the customer on the invoice or add the correct contact before resending.
- Need to resend — open the invoice and use send again with an updated message if needed.
